Love my Spyderco Stretch ZDP-189

Love this steel and knife!!!

Love this steel and knife!!!

I bought this knife a few years ago and have carried it off and on. I wanted to test the steel and see what it could do. After much abuse and use, I decided to clean it up and re-polish it. After a lot of elbow grease in the hand sanding department, I became a believer in the steel. It is extremely hard. It gets incredibly sharp and holds an edge like no knife I have ever used. And continues to cut when other high performance knives go dull. I think they discontinued the blue color, by I highly recommend this knife anyone looking for a high performance steel knife. My personal favorite knife steel prior to owning this knife was D2. I have a Chris Reeve Classic Sebenza in S30V. I have a custom neck knife in S90V. But for the price and performance, I just loved a D2 knife. My favorite D2 knives are those made by Bob Dozier in Arkansas. I now have a new favorite knife and knife steel that will be carried everyday.

Benchmade Osborne- Gold Class

I am friends with the knifemaker that designed these knives for Benchmade, Warren Osborne. I consider him to be one of the best knifemakers around. All of his custom knives are pieces of art. He makes investment grade knives. If you have never seen one of his knives, please visit his website.

Also Warren is very active in the cutting events of Bladesport International. If you’ve never seen a cutting competition, then you must visit their website and see some past events. That’s Warren Osborne cutting the water bottles on the home page.

Warren can sometimes be convinced to make a cutter for other competitors. He uses M4 steel which has probably been used by more cutters to win the competitions than blade steel type. I have one of his cutters and it is amazing.

For those of you familiar with Benchmade’s products, let me introduce you to the Gold Class version of the Osborne.  For those of you unfamiliar with Benchmade, this is a beautiful product to introduce you to their line of American made knives. Benchmade will occasionally create a limited run of knives in an very upgraded version of designs from their main lines.  This piece features carbon and green anodized titanium for its’ handle and a much higher hardness of steel (CPM-M4 at a 62-64hrc).  We have it on display at our De Zavala location.  Stop by Good Sports today and check it out!
